Support access to early learning through programs like Parents as Teachers

Your donation today will support a parent like Julianna:Wendy

Julianna, mom to a 5-year-old who recently started kindergarten, has this to say about Parents as Teachers:
"Raising a young child on my own felt overwhelming. My Family Center home visitor, Peggy, helped me to feel confident and stable during a transitional time in my life. Peggy has coached me on fun ways to help my son to develop important skills he will need for the rest of his life—strengthening his hands and fingers for delicate tasks like writing, as well as problem-solving and early math & literacy skills."

The Wayne County Family Center has brought the FUN & FREE Parents as Teachers (PAT) home visiting program directly into the homes of families in Wayne and Pike counties. PAT makes early education accessible for families who do not have access to childcare or preschool. During home visits, parents/caregivers are coached by a certified teacher on fun and engaging ways to share early learning with their child.

Jackie and Mark, parents to 2-year-old twins, say this:
"Our parent educator got to know us and learned our strengths. She helped us to identify the behaviors that have the most positive impact on our children. It's great to have this resource as our children learn and grow."

Carla, mom to 3 children who are now adults:
"My three children are now adults. I fondly remember our Family Center home visits from almost 30 years ago. It was a wonderful resource for me as a new parent. My parent educator coached me along the way and answered all my questions. More importantly, she validated me and boosted my confidence in parenting my children."

Studies have proven that the first five years of life are crucial for a child's physical, intellectual and social-emotional learning. When little ones are having fun with early education, they're doing something amazing--learning new information and growing their brains. This not only helps children to be ready for kindergarten; it also helps them be ready for life!
